History of the Pride of Michigan
The Pride of Michigan is a truly beautiful work of nature. It consists of great lakes that flows so slowly that you would hardly notice that it moves at all. The grassy land by the shore of the lake blossoms with wild flowers, carpet grasses and occasional small rock like stones. The Pride of Michigan is presently a popular dating spot in Michigan for lovers, couples and families but that has not always been so. Long before World War Two it was a popular fishing and picnic spot for residents in the area.
Prior to the second World War, local residents used it as a fishing spot. But even back then, many dating couples had walked along the lake sides holding hands and confessing undying love. World War two saw the need for the navy to expand its fleet and operations. The area was then taken over by the navy and was used as a prime location to train navy cadets in preparation for war. The navy later dredged the lake to expand its width and depths. Navy sailors used the location to train cadets in deep diving, under water maneuvers and other naval operations.
After the war the use of the location as a training base gradually reduced, and after the Vietnam War Navy authorities relinquished control and ownership to local authorities and pulled out of the area. The place once again became a place for the locals to use as they deemed fit. The area was later redesigned to be the beautiful scenic Pride of Michigan it now is, complete with a Picnic Bar plus canoe and boat rental services. The place is presently a bee-hive of activity as young couples and lovers regurlarly come around to enjoy each other's company in plain view of esquisite natural surroundings.
